About Me

Bite-Sized was created with the goal of answering the nutrition and health questions I commonly run into. Unofficially, however, it is the place where I get to feed my obsession with researching and talking about food. If you know me, you know that I can get on a soap box about anything from FDA improvements to ground beef, not to mention kombucha or nutrition and lifting. I could talk indefinitely about the benefits of creatine and magnesium or the controversy surrounding artificial sugar.

However, most people are not quite as enthusiastic about health to the point of hour long conversations about nutrition. They may also not be thrilled by combing through academic articles and researching new studies. I get it. So, this blog gives me the platform to talk about the many proactive benefits of food, nutrition, and wellness topics while giving you the freedom to explore your own interests within this space at your leisure.

My greatest hope is that you learn something that improves your life, makes you more mindful about your own health, and contributes to your own wellness decisions, allowing you to make more informed choices that work for your lifestyle. I am in no means trying to tell anyone how to live their best life; only you have those answers. I just like food and enjoy discussing how nutrition intersects with individual health and society as a whole.

I’ve been reading food labels since I was six years old…

My brother’s severe food allergies were discovered abruptly as a toddler when he ate cashews during a family vacation. While he thankfully survived the severe reaction, from that point forward, I spent hours with my mom in grocery store aisles inspecting ingredient lists. Over the years, I learned the ins and outs of food labels and started to find that while I was looking out for my brother, the incorporation of preservatives and chemicals banned in other countries reflected that big corporations may not be looking out for us…

Being a Student-Athlete, I take responsibility for what I eat as it impacts training, practice, and performance…

Forty-hour weeks filled with training, practice, competition, qualifiers, and school are not sustainable unless supported by the correct nutrition. My lifestyle has pushed me to learn all about what tools I can utilize to keep pursuing the things I love to do.

As a Medicine, Health, and Society major, I get to take courses about public health and enjoy transitioning all conversations to food related topics…

From the anthropology of food to environmental sociology, not to mention studying the social dimensions of health, public health can be better understood through the lens of nutrition. Further, my minor in Chemistry allows me to better understand the technical nuances of nutrition research and food processing.
